The idea is to post a series of instructions to help people get personal installs of VuFind up and running. The intention is just to get people playing with this – not get service level installations going! While any materials and instructions posted here will be here indefinitely, during the initial project (running sometime in September-October 2010), support and discussion to help people get through the install will be posted on the forums at http://www.mashedlibrary.com/groups/vufind-virtual-bootcamp/home/ – feel free to post questions there.
The steps to get VuFind up and running are:
- Install Apache, MySQL and PHP, and activate PEAR (if necessary), and install Smarty templates
- Install the Java JDK
- Install and Configure VuFind, and configure SOLR
- Import test record set into VuFind and view/search via web interface
Installation on Windows and various flavours of Linux are documented at http://vufind.org/wiki/installation, but here I hope to give a bit more detail in some areas, and also use the forums (http://www.mashedlibrary.com/groups/vufind-virtual-bootcamp/home/) to offer support.
If people are interested in getting up and running on other platforms, hopefully we can add some stuff on this as well.
