I’ve permanently retired the wiki due to spam. Content is preserved at http://www.mashedlibrary.com/wiki-content. I suggest forums are used where things would have been added to the Wiki previously

Sorry – my bad. I didn’t get much feedback after doing the first post, and didn’t manage to find the time/energy to do the remaining ones. I also don’t have a Windows PC at the moment, so can’t run through the steps right now. If you’ve done step 1 here, you are basically ready to […]

I’m fed up of losing (badly) the spam battle on the wiki and so I’m going to retire it. The thing that it is mostly used for is details of mashed library events – I’ll make sure there is still a way of announcing and publicising events on here – ideas of the best way […]

In 2010, the JISC and RLUK Resource Discovery Taskforce (RDTF), involving national stakeholders from libraries, archives and museums, set out a vision for making the most of UK scholarly and cultural resources. JISC and their RDTF partners have now committed to a programme of activity to help fulfil the vision – building critical mass through […]

That would be great Mark – definitely take you up on this, so please keep 25th free! For those who just want to dive straight in with the client (and not worry about the install) perhaps we could have at least one system up and running in advance?

We are collaborating with JISC and SCONUL on Haggis and Mash now, bringing a specific (but not sole) focus on Open Source in libraries. I’ve posted a (very) draft agenda at http://www.mashedlibrary.com/wiki/index.php?title=Haggis_and_Mash We’ve got some ideas for filling speaking slots, but suggestions for both speakers and what people would like…[Read more]

Since it has been a bit quiet on this front, I just thought I’d post to confirm the event is definitely going ahead, 25th Jan at the NeSC e-Science Institute in Edinburgh. Sessions and format is under active discussion at the moment and hope to have something to post very soon.

Thanks Nicola – definitely sounds good – think something ‘geo’ would go down very well – we had a lot of interest when John McKerrell presented something around geo stuff at Liver and Mash in Liverpool, so I think there would definitely be some interest around this.

I’ve posted the first installment of the Virtual bootcamp on the wiki at http://www.mashedlibrary.com/wiki/index.php?title=VuFind_Virtual_Bootcamp Step 1 covers (at the moment for Windows only) the installation of Apache, MySQL, PHP, PEAR and Smarty (and tries to explain what they are). Sounds a lot, but by using a pre-packaged installation called…[Read more]

In reply to: Kate posted an update in the group VuFind (virtual) bootcamp I was planning on installing on Ubuntu but can switch if that makes things easier… ViewI wanted to go through a Win install because I thought that it might be more accessible for a wider range of people – and also because I’ve done a successful Win install, but haven’t tried it on Linux/Unix/Mac OS X. However, Graham has volunteered to help on Linux installs so I can’t see a problem with this.

I’m not 100% sure about needing admin access on Windows, and of course if you already have some of the components installed by default, this may get around the need, but I’d be a bit suprised if we can manage an install without Admininstrator access. I haven’t done a Mac install – but hey, surely […]
